Man wanted in March homicide now also charged in earlier killing: Winnipeg police

A man wanted in the March killing of a 56-year-old man has now been also been charged in connection with an earlier death, which police believe is not related.

Last week, police said they were looking for Maxim Dale Garneau, 27, in connection with the killing of Edgar Allan Bear, who was found dead in a house on Selkirk Avenue near McNichol Street on March 18.

Garneau is also now the suspect in the killing of Daniel Raymond Garvey-Rodriguez, city police said in a release Thursday.

Garvey-Rodriguez, 25, was found suffering from a gunshot wound outside an apartment building on the 200 block of College Avenue, between Main and Aikins streets, on Sept. 10, 2023.

Garvey-Rodriguez was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died of his injuries, police said at the time.

Garneau is facing second-degree murder charges in both killings. He is considered dangerous, police say, and they are asking the public not to make contact with him if he is seen.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is being asked to call the Winnipeg Police Service's homicide unit at 204-986-6508.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477, or online.
